Chiropractic Treatment

McTimoney Chiropractic -

deceptively gentle, powerfully effective

About McTimoney Chiropractic

McTimoney Chiropractic is a low force chiropractic technique, which uses gentle, fast, light adjustments to mobilise and realign the joints of the body, with particular emphasis on the spine and pelvis. The whole body is generally assessed treated at each session.

McTimoney is a precise and gentle treatment. No large twisting manoeuvres are used and the technique avoids any sharp turning of the neck.

Chiropractic has been proven in clinical trials to be effective in relieving low back pain, and can relieve the pain of upper back and neck problems, as well as many other conditions.

Chiropractors train for five years to achieve a Masters level qualification (MSc) and must be registered with the statutory regulatory body (the GCC) in order to practice.

You can find out more about McTimoney Chiropractic by visiting the MCA website.

What to expect at a session

When you visit our chiropractor at Tillow Barn you will have already completed an online New Patient Information form (link sent to you by email), which will have given your chiropractor a good idea of your history and what has prompted you to seek treatment. At the start of your session your chiropractor may ask a few more questions to clarify the questionnaire. They will usually take your blood pressure and then assess you, using gentle range of motion testing and, if needed, some orthopaedic and neurological tests.

You will then be asked to lie on the treatment couch, where your chiropractor will assess and adjust your joints, spine and pelvis. They will use light gentle adjustments, some of which are specific to the McTimoney technique, to mobilise and align your skeletal framework. McTimoney Chiropractic does not aim to 'crack' or 'pop' the joints in the way that some other treatment modalities do. Some people prefer the McTimoney technique for this reason as they feel it is a more comfortable experience. Our chiropractors may also use soft tissue massage techniques and medical acupuncture alongside chiropractic adjustments where they feel this will benefit you.

Patients at this clinic need on average three or four sessions to resolve their initial presenting problem. It is unusual to need any more than six sessions to resolve an issue and some take only one or two. Our chiropractors spend at least half an hour with you at each session and they will discuss how many sessions they feel you might need before your treatment commences.

Chiropractic Testimonials

“Abi's treatments have pretty much eliminated my daughters intake of painkillers for headaches due to studying and exam stress which has been a lifesaver through the revision period! Her approach is gentle, holistic and she is very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.”

Danielle, Dorking

“Abi managed to, very gently, transform me from someone in extreme acute lower back pain to someone who could get into a car without yelping in pain! who could actually put their *own* socks on and who could actually function! I’m very grateful! Both Anne & Abi are great. I highly recommend them. The clinic is a wonderful oasis of calm.”

Jos, Crawley

“Had a slight lower back pain that would come on after standing for long periods. Was diagnosed quickly and fixed within 2 sessions. I've not had any pain since I went in a month or so ago so excellent.”

Joe, Dorking

“Abi is attentive and reassuring and makes constructive suggestions as to how to help oneself. It can be months and months between my visits but she always remembers our previous conversations! An all round excellent practitioner.”

Jean S, Dorking

“Lower back pain and unable to walk very well I booked an appointment with Abi McGuinness. When I walked out of my session it felt like I had grown a completely new leg! .......... realigned and walking with symmetry again, thanks Abi!”

Anthony, Reigate

“I have found the whole experience with Tillow Barn Health and Wellbeing is very welcoming and very professional. Would certainly recommend to anyone with back or joint pain.”

Lee Maidens, Guildford

“I visited Tillow due to back and neck pains. I saw Abi Mcguiness who helped me with chiropractic, acupuncture and massage. This treatment worked very well and I am pleased I visited. Abi is friendly and professional as well as effective. The place is small and welcoming although in the middle of nowhere (which could be thought of as a positive). I would recommend treatment here.”

Andrew, Brockham

“Being treated at Tillow Barn has changed my life for the better in so many ways. I was suffering from lower back pain and general misery and my first consultation/treatment was enlightening and powerful. She gave me amazing advice and exercises to do at home and I am now symptom free and SO happy. I am proud to tell her how well I am doing when I visit for my 'maintenance treatments' and also to receive her warm praise! Thanks for everything.”

Nina, Redhill

“The chiropractor at Tillow Barn has been sorting out my back for the past ten years or so, whenever I've done something daft such as over-zealous gardening or over-enthusiastic exercising. The first time I met her I could scarcely walk, the pain in my back was excruciating. I hobbled into her clinic and at the end of the session, I skipped out, free of pain. To me it was little short of a miracle. Since then she has come to my rescue on many occasions. I don't know how she does it, but with a gentle tweak here, a nudge there ( so it seems to me) some soothing massage and sometimes some acupuncture, the pain and aching has melted away. In addition to this, she's a very easy person to talk to and has endless patience.”

Elinor Bailey, Dorking

“I would like to say how impressed I was. The treatment I received was extremely effective for my condition and my symptoms are disappearing. Abi’s diagnosis was extremely accurate and she explained every step of her treatment in a very clear way. Her post session advice was also very easy to follow and integrate with my daily routine.”

N Stevens, Redhill

“I have been a patient at the Yorke Clinic (now Tillow Barn) for many years. Having Hypermobility Syndrome means my joints do not stay in place as they should. This makes many aspects of daily life very difficult. The treatment I have had at the clinic has made such a difference to my ability to do everyday tasks. Anne is so kind, supportive and positive as well as knowledgeable and professional. I will never be able to thank her enough!”

Rebekah Firman, Redhill

“I have had back problems over approx. 10 years and been to a number of Chiropractors over time. I would just like to say you are the best Chiropractor I have ever been to. From the first visit you were extremely professional, asked me a detailed history, explaining everything as you went and putting me at ease all the time. I was amazed at your detailed, professional examination. You explained what you were doing and why you were doing it in a relaxed, friendly manner. You are a credit to your profession and I will be recommending you to anyone who I hear requires a Chiropractor. Thank you once again for all your help and assistance.”

Garry, Reigate

“Went to Anne after spending a ton of money on various osteopaths trying to solve a long term back problem. Within a couple of weeks and just a few sessions Anne sorted it. Now I go once every 6 months maybe when it goes again - and a 20 minute session means I can play tennis, golf, footy with my boys etc. Priceless.”

Neil Bradshaw, Reigate
