McTimoney Chiropractic -
deceptively gentle, powerfully effective
Important information about Chiropractic at Tillow Barn
To all current and potential patients,
As of 1st November 2024, chiropractic treatments will no longer be available at Tillow Barn.
After seven years working from Tillow Barn, Abi is now planning to focus solely on her own clinic near Shere. You can find out more information about the clinic on her website: Abi McGuinness Chiropractic
If you have begun your chiropractic care here at Tillow Barn, Abi will be very happy to continue your care at her new clinic, with no need for you to restart as a new patient. All of the Tillow Barn chiropractic patient record cards will be handed over to Abi as part of the transfer of care.
I will miss Abi very much - we have had a wonderful working relationship. However, I feel extremely confident in handing over the care of all of our patients to her, including my own previous patients, and I know she will continue to deliver the same high standards of care and treatment that we have always worked towards at here at Tillow Barn.
With thanks to all of the chiropractic patients who have trusted both Abi and me with their care over the many years that we were both in practice here at Tillow.

McTimoney Chiropractic is a low force chiropractic technique, which uses gentle, fast, light adjustments to mobilise and realign the joints of the body, with particular emphasis on the spine and pelvis. The whole body is generally assessed treated at each session.
McTimoney is a precise and gentle treatment. No large twisting manoeuvres are used and the technique avoids any sharp turning of the neck.
Chiropractic has been proven in clinical trials to be effective in relieving low back pain, and can relieve the pain of upper back and neck problems, as well as many other conditions.
Chiropractors train for five years to achieve a Masters level qualification (MSc) and must be registered with the statutory regulatory body (the GCC) in order to practice.
You can find out more about McTimoney Chiropractic by visiting the MCA website.

What to expect at a session
When you visit our chiropractor at Tillow Barn you will have already completed an online New Patient Information form (link sent to you by email), which will have given your chiropractor a good idea of your history and what has prompted you to seek treatment. At the start of your session your chiropractor may ask a few more questions to clarify the questionnaire. They will usually take your blood pressure and then assess you, using gentle range of motion testing and, if needed, some orthopaedic and neurological tests.
You will then be asked to lie on the treatment couch, where your chiropractor will assess and adjust your joints, spine and pelvis. They will use light gentle adjustments, some of which are specific to the McTimoney technique, to mobilise and align your skeletal framework. McTimoney Chiropractic does not aim to 'crack' or 'pop' the joints in the way that some other treatment modalities do. Some people prefer the McTimoney technique for this reason as they feel it is a more comfortable experience. Our chiropractors may also use soft tissue massage techniques and medical acupuncture alongside chiropractic adjustments where they feel this will benefit you.
Patients at this clinic need on average three or four sessions to resolve their initial presenting problem. It is unusual to need any more than six sessions to resolve an issue and some take only one or two. Our chiropractors spend at least half an hour with you at each session and they will discuss how many sessions they feel you might need before your treatment commences.
